Description
Wow! talk about last hour entry! I absolutly pulled my guts out to get this finished before the deadline tomorrow. I designed the character from scratch for the contest, the idea is that the Pirate captin keeps his precious PNY graphics card in his treasure chest (check the padlock). I thought and eye patch was a bit to common in Pirate designs, so I decided to show his battle damage in all it's glory, dead eye and all.

Strange mixture of the macabre and ‘cartoon’ – a feeling of imbalance that is strangely compelling.
A bit ‘flat’ perhaps on (his) left shoulder where it could maybe do with some detailing – and I’d suggest cropping the bottom a fraction too to remove the sand (bottom right) as that looks a bit ‘fragmented’ and ‘bitty’ – I think I prefer that with just water at that side… plus the current crop on the hand looks like you’ve just chopped off his finger whereas a slightly bolder crop looks more deliberate.
Hmmm – and the more I look at it, I think a greyer (or at least less vividly blue), stormy sky might give it a more sinister feel…

Distinctive Glenn styling here! Like the use of colours. I just get a feeling the perspective of teh box isnt quite right...OR the way the arm is holding it at the elbow...not too sure. Nice one though dude

Overall I would say to study some pictures and work towards using less black and varying your hues more. Try doing some light studies from for example your room at different times of day or self portraits these give a good feeling for light/shadow. Nice work keep it up!
