Pros:Pros : Wonderful use of color schemee and light
interesting subject matter, SOME textures are splendid. Wonderful feeling of fabric on the left leg(raised leg - viewers right) Cons:the "ruffles" on the shoulder appear flat and or cardboard, and lend to an overall feeling of zero depth. the perspeective achieved with the floor's tiling only makes this worse.
the barrels contradict the perspective associated with the floor. Overall opinion/feedback:Its a cool peice, personally i feel neither it to be a great peice or a terrible peice.
I would say that your use of light and lighting conditions is what is holding this peice above "possible revise" status. The light useage is amazing, and makes me jealous (i have such a hard time with lighting) but I think several parts I mentioned before make everything BUT the light seem rushed. +7/9 |

Overall opinion/feedback:This is not really a review as such... more a rambling babble that i felt was a little too long-winded for the comments section so I tucked it away here
Ok nailed it!... There was something about the stylistic approach you used here that was really kicking in for me but I couldn’t pin it down… it’s kind of obscure I guess but there’s a small carving in one of the buildings in Stratford-Upon-Avon and the guy is wearing this self same hat… There’s a double thread here for me – Shakespeare was a contemporary of Guy Fawkes - the melodramatic pose just screams to me of a Shakespearian actor about to deliver a soliloquy – (from the long undiscovered play ‘The Tragedy of Guy Fawkes’)… the background has the feel of a theatre backdrop – even the lighting is suitably theatrical. At the same time it also echoes the feeling that it’s a scene carved into a wooden panel ( I kind of associate Cromwellian England as being heavily into wooden panelling. There’s a ‘formed’ feel to the character as if he’s been carved out of highly polished wood, with features (buckles) picked out in paint or maybe even gold leaf. It’s not that that’s what it actually looks like – more that it hints at it and conjours those associations in my head. The glowing light from his torch is casting light on him in the same way that the Fireworks Night Bonfires will cast their light on the people surrounding them… a portent of his infamy. |

Very nice painting nice textures on the stones, but I think the details in the background might be a lil overwhelming, seems to take away from the figure a lil bit. Perspective seems a lil off, the barrels in the background seem a lil off, size wise.

His torch holding arm seems a bit rubber like in texture a few more folds or creases maybe in the cloth?
One of your best ones!

They ripped this poor bastard apart and stuck his head on a spike when he was caught, mum always said don't play with fireworks
Cheers mate, I await your next one

The hunched posture is typical of how Fawkes is always depicted, but the direct gaze and finger raised to the lips invites the viewer to share the secret and the raised torch reveals the nature of the conspiracy.
Yeah sure there's some proportional problems, maybe the cloth COULD do with some more folds...yada, yada...as I've been banging on about ever since I joined this site, painting is not just about technique...it's about content...and this pulls the viewer into it's story beautifully IMO...Great job!
(PS...I think you'll find they did more than stick his head on a spike..he was hung, drawn and quartered...the body parts were then preserved in tar and hung over the four gates of London as a warning to other disgruntled Catholics...a practise we might want to bring back for the twats who take bombs onto our tube trains!!!)
