Description

Lurtz is the leader of the horde of Uruks which Saruman sent out to fetch the ring. He's one of the first successful spawns of Sarumans Uruk breed hence he is more experianced than his troops. Blood thursty and aggressive this ugly breed is more upright and powerful than a normal Orc and can travel long distances with little rest. Armour is worn on the front only as Saruman would not have taught (or expected) his new army to retreat from the enemy. This also helps to keep their armour weight down, in Lurtz' case it would have been made of mostly boiled leather. His weapons comprised of a crude chopping sword with a spike on one side which could be used offensively. His other weapon was the long bow which required massive amounts of strength to draw.

Painted completly in photoshop, this is the second version of this character as he was much harder to capture than I anticipated. I also tried a more interesting angle. This artwork appeared in Imgine FX magazine.

Nice work The only thing that disturbs me is the unfinished light parts of the ground. Maybe adding a DOF effect would be nice :)

Not too bad, more interesting than a straight-on shot, but I think you might want to study foreshortening a bit more, as some of the proportions look skewed and unnatural. Also, the absence of a background is a bit odd.

Very nice angle. I like the perspective on this. You have defo caught the look and expression of the Uruk-hai. I would like to see more of the ground, although I do like the way it seems to be 3d from the gfx page!

P.S Happy birthday and have a good day mate!

Great:)
the eyes, expresion is good. I don't know if im right or not but from my sight i think his weapon should have had more light to it since it's sort of blunt looking also.. great lighting in other places anywayz But i think his weapon should have got more ----- well i don't know exactly (not to sure on paintings) - maybe as i said light or sharpness anywayz Overall fabulous job once again

Nice work with the face and expression! Especially the face stand out in this painting. I think it would be even more striking if he could stare us right in the eyes btw.
I've always liked the idea to make the painting a part of the bg here at gfx, and IMO if you made the ground blend even more into the bg (or use another colour on it), the figure would stand even more out - which would work really well with this angle.
Oh and I wish you'd work a lil with the hands. They look like chicken legs :p

But overall, a well done version of Lurtz. (thumbup)

@ Sandra, I couldn't add any fingers to the hands, I tried but it looked wrong so I went for the fists insted. Thanks :)

Nice perspective.
The left leg could have used a bit more work in my opinion.
But I like the face very much.

I missed this! I like the angle, great work on the face! :)
The only thing....maybe the legs are just a bit too thin...
Nice job on this unfriendly creature!

its not bad but the pose youre pulling off requires you to understand a bit more about biped behaviour. basically the lower arms and the upper legs wouldnt pop up like that if you use that angle. it'd be more or less smoothed or inclined and if you did do that, your lower back would seriously hurt. too much stress on it

I'd love to see this with a finished background. The figure itself is outstanding. His expression is outstanding. Well done!

Hi Juro!! I love Orcs and the Uruk-hai, so I was pleased to see this ;) It really captures the rage of Lurtz, and even though we're looking down on him, his expression lends him an air of menace. I too would like to see this with a finished background!
