Description

I really love the scene in The Two towers when the Warg Riders attack the people of Rohan on their way to Helms Deep. I decided to challenge myself and paint one of the Riders of Isenguard. That Orc looks like he really enjoys his job :) Notice the hair on his skull helmet, and his armband. Aparantly this helps the Rider "intergrate" with his unpredictable ally to reduce the constant risk of being eaten. This artwork appeared in Imagine FX magazine.

very nice Glenn, good feeling of movement in this. I like the overcast sort of bleak landscape too.

SEE REVIEW....I think you have the application techniques down..now is the time to work on composition and alternate angles...

Nice job man! Great color and atmosphere. I agree with Wysiwyg's crit. A more dynamic angle would really add more impact. Also having the two front paws together lessens the impact of his speed. Good work though!

Very good detail and style :)
I reckon you could have given the warg a better sense of action if you had drawn the back legs on the floor as if he was about to spring forward perhaps, but it is nice as it is as well.

if i take each bit (the foreground and background) seperately, theyre absolutely rocking and stand out on their own. when you merge them, i cant really feel the weight of the characters on the ground its walking on. maybe a change in light source or perspective might correct this problem.

Not exactly my taste; The colors are flat, the shapes are too soft, the front-paws are heading nowhere.....All in all I need to see more dynamics in a scene like this. Sorry.

I like the composition and i think the colors seem right for the subject matter. I would suggest maybe clarifying the light. That would solve the floating beast problem. It looks like the light should be a casting a different shadow. If the shadow was included more in the composition I think it would help tie him down more. But I do like the touches of dirt flying up as they speed along.

Cool, but I feel the pose and the perspective doesn't match... the rear feet should've looked further away.

I like the subject (it reminds me a Warcraft character someway)
Yes maybe the position of the legs of the animal is not perfect, but there's a great sense of mouvement in any case! :)

Coool! You know what i think? More blood. And more red. More dirt and thorned clothes and scares. That would really add some drama. A more interesting sky perhaps? I find this too boring. This pic might give you some inspiration:

or any other dynamic sky I found here:

Stunning work, this is definitely one of your strongest pieces. The clouds could be a bit more dynamic, but other than that, great work. +10

Looks good, other than that it's a bit lacking in speed.
But still great work!

Beautifull picture!
I love the subject and I love how you coloured. Like other people said this lacks a bit of more movement, I specially find odd the front legs of the creature, I think at least one should be a bit up. Other thing that maybe would increse the movemnt sensation is the sky, the same thing you did on the ground (that smuding) should also be done on the clouds. Maybe it wouldn't help but it's just a suggestion. I also thing you could do a bit more movement playing a little bit with the fur on the top of the head and neck of the creature. And persoanlly I would love to see even more bloood and drool but that's a persoanll liking.
Besides that I love the picture, you colouring is fantastic, I love the colour squeme and specially the work you made on the head of the creature and on the warior. I think you also achievedd ot make really wonderfull textures :)

You have done a warg rider too! Yay!! I really get a sense of movement from the streamlined pose and the lines of the grassy ground. The only thing I would suggest to you is to try softening lines that are further away to suggest distance...Ofcourse for metals and things like that you would need a much lighter touch! But there is a little flatness in the mask that I think could probably be easily remedied with a softening brush :)

Concept:

Strong

Technical Skill:

Strong

Impact/impression:

Average
Pros:
I think you got a good sense of speed, and the textures are rendered well...nothing looks cut/pasted together...very harmonious, which is very hard for most artists here.
Cons:
I think if the rider was crouched a bit more it would add to the drama...or a different angle...a lower one...with the beast charging towards...or a bit to the left but still towards the viewer...then you can have the monster's tongue and spit flying everywhere etc.
Overall opinion/feedback:
Pretty damn cool....though I think the centered figure is slowing down thie speedy beast.
